Wordy Wednesday

My posts lately have been very hexagon intensive, so I'll save the hexagon post I prepared for tomorrow.

My first Spring to Finish 2010 finish! I finally finished my charcoal and orange placemats.

They are super crinkly after washing.  Super crinkly.

I finished my last four pinwheels for the pinwheel sampler. I'm seeing a pattern emerge here though. The next step is sashing and I have another project (the paintbox quilt) waiting for sashing. Sashing my be my least favorite part of the make-a-quilt process.

I picked up some fabrics my LQS last week.  I already had that Pez but I was taking photos earlier and thought this stack looked pretty.  It's  gradually grown over the week as I stacked newly acquired fabrics on top of the Pez.

I found some 1974 charm packs and a Recess charm pack online and they arrived today. The 1933 pack and the Tweet Tweet packs came home with me yesterday. I don't have plans for any of these yet, but I'm hoarding the 1974 and Recess.

I hope you are having a happy Wednesday!  See you tomorrow.

Placemat Inspiration

Isn't it funny where inspiration can come from. When I posted the photo of that mess on my cutting table, I noticed how nice I thought those orange Amy Butler dots looked with that Kona Coal. It's not a combination I would have ever thought to put together (and not why I bought that Kona), but I'm liking the results.

I couldn't decide on a layout, so I have a mis-matched set. I'm hoping to finish these up this afternoon after some unfortunately necessary housework.

Oh, and if you have a chance today, stop by Janice's blog, Sew Girly! She's hosting her first giveaway and the prize... Flea Market Fancy! How awesome is that!

Three is a magic number.

This song from Schoolhouse Rock pops into my head sometimes when I hear the number three. When Cristin at Sewthisismylife mentioned that I could get three blocks out of a set of 'Map of the States' templates, I immediately thought, "and that's a magic number!"

My daughter and I like to sing along... A man and a woman had a little baby. Yes, they did. They had three-e-e in the family and that's a magic number.  I pulled scraps to make three blocks.

The only other time I've used freezer paper was to make a quilt label.  It's fun to work with.  I think I'll still be able to use this set of blocks a couple more times before they won't iron on any longer.

Hearing the number three made me think of "Three is a Magic Number", which reminds me that there are three in my family, which made me think... placemats.

I used Essex Cotton/Linen blend for the background and Bamboo/Cotton batting.  They washed up so soft and crinkly!

We used them tonight at dinner and just as I thought, Shea had to decide who got which color.  We don't actually sit in a row like that though.  I just thought it made for a better photo.

Check out Elizabeth's 'Map of the States" tutorial and give it a try if you haven't already.  It's a fun way to use up scraps.
