finished quilts

I was able to talk the hubby into holding my quilts for me so I could photograph them. I finished this first quilt earlier this year, but haven't taken a photo of it finished. It was my first quilt-along project, hosted by Amy at a commonplace life.  It's a little on the crazy bright side, but I was afraid to try the technique on any of my prized stash, so this is what I came up with from fabrics I had on hand.

Here's the finished pinata quilt.  It was a hit, Shea loves it.   I love the back.

I finished quilting the scrappy log cabin today, it just needs a binding!

quilting and packing and quilting and packing

I finished the top of my Roundabout Quilt! Amy was right, the method does require a lot of pinning and patience (and steam, lots of steam from the iron helped too), but I think the top turned out great!

There is one spot where I got my pieces mixed up and there are two of the pink and blue dots diagonal from one another and the blue and green dots near one another. It's bugging me, but I really don't want to take it apart. Maybe it's not bothering me that badly.

I made a deal with myself this morning: make a block of four, pack two boxes, repeat. So, I got some boxes packed and finished my quilt top. Now to figure out how to motivate myself to keep packing...

A great giveaway and my bright quilt

Sheree of Sheree's Alchemy is hosting a great giveaway on her blog. She's got a huge box of Amy Butler scraps and a cute Amy Butler pattern. Comments close today, so you better hurry! I read Sheree at Bloglines, but I somehow missed her giveway post last week. Bloglines is a little undependable sometimes. Good luck to everyone that commented though!

I laid out my fabrics for the Roundabout quilt from the quilt-along. I knew the fabrics were bright, but wow. It's starting to grow on me. The more I look at it, the more I like it.

Fabrics for Roundabout Quilt

Well, the turq, red, and yellow didn't work out. Time for plan "B". I looked within my stash and then added a couple of fabrics from the sale section at my local quilting store. There's a Halloween print in here, but it doesn't have any pumpkins on it, so I think I'm good.

I'm going to make my quilt a bit smaller, so I only needed 30 12x12" blocks. Here they are. I'm ready to go!

Roundabout Quilt-Along thoughts

I can't decide on fabrics for the quilt-along! I've bought some fabrics recently, but my quilting stash is still pretty small. I also have apprehensions about cutting into some of my fabrics. Maybe I'll buy new fabrics just for this project. Here's the color scheme I'm thinking about. It's turquoise, red and yellow. I have nothing to go with it, I just like it.
